Sweetcorn / Listeria FAQs

Q. What is the problem with these products?
A. Waitrose are undertaking a voluntary recall on a precautionary basis of the following products due to the potential presence of Listeria.   
•    Waitrose Essential Frozen Supersweet Sweetcorn Best Before End Aug 18 / Oct 19 / Nov 19 only
•    Waitrose Essential Frozen Vegetable Mix – All date codes to BBE Jan 20
•    Waitrose Frozen Fine Cut Steamers – All date codes to BBE Jan 20
•    Waitrose Frozen Love Life Vegetable Medley Steamers – All date codes to BBE Jan 20

Q.   Will I be affected if I have consumed a potentially contaminated product?
A.  If you have followed the cooking instructions on the back of pack, you should not be affected.  If you are concerned you should seek medical advice.

Q. I have a frail and elderly mother who has eaten some of the product(s). Will she be affected?
A. If you have followed the cooking instructions on the back of pack, you should not be affected. If you are concerned you should seek medical advice.

Q. I  am 6 months pregnant  and  have eaten  some of the product(s) . Will I be affected?
A. If you have followed the cooking instructions on the back of pack, you should not be affected. If you are concerned you should seek medical advice.

Q. If I were to have any ill effects from eating the product, how soon would I be affected?
A.   If you have followed the cooking instructions on the back of pack, you should not be affected. If you are concerned you should seek medical advice.

Q. How did the Listeria get into the products?
A. Investigations are currently ongoing with the supplier 

Q. Are procedures in place for the removal of the products?
A. All affected products have been removed from sale. 

Q. What do consumers who have bought it do now?
A. These products should not be consumed, but returned to Waitrose for a full refund.

Q. Has the FSA been advised?
A. Yes

Q. I have stored the affected products in my freezer.  Will it have contaminated other items stored near it?
A. Provided the products have remained wrapped, there should be no cross-contamination problem.

Q. The products I purchased have not yet reached their Best Before date.  Is it alright to eat?
A. No.  These products should not be consumed, but returned to Waitrose for a full refund.
